Ferry Services in Scotland - Call for views
Please note that the call for views is now closed and this page contains historic information.
- What are your views on ferry services in Scotland?
- How well do ferries meet the needs of ferry users?
- What aspects of ferry services work well? What could be improved?
The Scottish Parliament’s Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee is holding an inquiry into ferry services in Scotland. More information on the inquiry can be found here.
The Committee is keen to hear the views of ferry users and other interested parties to assist its inquiry.
The Committee is particularly interested in hearing views on:
- Ferry routes – how useful are current ferry routes and what potential is there for new routes
- Frequency and timetabling of services – are ferry services run at times which are convenient to ferry users?
- Capacity – is there sufficient capacity on routes to meet the requirements of ferry users?
- Integration with other transport modes – how well does this work in practice?
- Competition – how has this affected ferry services?
As well as these issues, the Committee is interested to hear views on any other subjects relating to ferry services in Scotland.
Please could all views be received by Monday 31 March 2008. Late submissions will, however, still be considered by the Committee, providing that they are received before Friday 25 April 2008.
How to contact us
There are two ways of getting in touch with the Committee.
Either complete an online survey of your views. This is a short survey which should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes and is primarily designed for individual ferry users.
This survey has now closed.
Or send your views to the Committee in writing. More information about how to do this is provided in the next section below.
The information you provide will be treated as evidence to the inquiry. Before you complete the survey or provide your views in writing, please ensure that you have read our policy for handling information received in response to calls for evidence (pdf 15kb).
Evidence received may be published by the Parliament and will be treated as a public document unless indicated. All submissions will be made available to the Committee.
Providing written views
Written views of no more than six sides of A4 should be submitted by e-mail to ticc.committee@scottish.parliament.uk. If you do not have access to a computer, please submit evidence in hard copy to the address below.

Next steps
The Committee intends to use the written views it receives and the information gathered from the survey to inform the rest of its work on the inquiry.
