Subordinate Legislation

The Committee reports to the Parliament as follows—

1. At its meeting of 26 September 2007, the Health and Sport Committee   considered the following instrument under the negative procedure—

the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) (Scotland) (No.2) Regulations 2007, (SSI/389).

The Committee considered the instrument and had no comment to make on the instrument’s main purpose, to provide that NHS prescription charges not be levied in respect of drugs prescribed for the treatment of tuberculosis. However, the Committee noted that the instrument does not extend exemption to patients who require wigs under the NHS; further noted that the report and recommendations of the short-life working group reviewing the whole issue of the provision of wigs within the NHS, the Supply of Wigs Investigation Group Scotland, are currently with the Minister for Public Health for consideration, and agreed to write to the Minister asking for a copy of the review once published.
