Finance Committee - Inquiry into the funding of capital investment projects
The Committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the methods of funding public sector capital investment projects. The Committee considered its approach to the inquiry at its meeting on 25 September 2007. Remit
The Committee has agreed a broad remit. The inquiry will consider and report on the advantages and disadvantages of different actual and proposed models of funding capital investment projects. This can include the implications of the different models for costs and revenue streams and for the management and public benefit of the projects.
This inquiry proposes to look at the PFI model as well as alternative methods of capital investment, including the proposals from the Scottish government.

Following the Scottish Government's publication of Taking Forward the Scottish Futures Trust (see below), the Committee agreed to seek further written comment on the Scottish Futures Trust proposals from all witnesses who gave evidence to the inquiry. All submissions received can be found via the link below.
The Committee also sought written evidence from the UK Government on specific points related to the inquiry. Please follow the link below to correspondence between the Convener and the Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Report
At its meeting on 16 September, the Committee agreed that it
will now consider a draft report on the
inquiry. Consideration of the draft report will be held in
private session and will begin on Tuesday 23 September. Further
information will appear here in due course.

The Scottish Government published the document, Taking Forward the Scottish Futures Trust, on 20 May 2008. The document is available on the Scottish Government's website (click link).
