Remit and membership

Remit:

To consider and report on (a) further and higher education, lifelong learning, schools, pre-school care, skills and other matters falling within the responsibility of the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning; and (b) matters relating to culture and the arts falling within the responsibility of the Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture.

Subordinate Legislation

The Committee reports to the Parliament as follows—

1. At its meeting on 18 June 2008, the Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee considered the following affirmative instrument—

the draft Charity Test (Specified Bodies) (Scotland) Order 2008.

2. Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, moved—

S3M-1999: That the Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee recommends that the Charity Test (Specified Bodies) (Scotland) Order 2008 be approved.

3. After debate, the motion was agreed to.

4. Also at its meeting on 18 June 2008, the Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee considered the following affirmative instrument—

the draft Nutritional Requirements for Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2008.

5. Adam Ingram MSP, Minister for Children and Early Years, moved—

S3M-1920: That the Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee recommends that the draft Nutritional Requirements for Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2008 be approved.

6. The Committee sought clarification from the Minister that the effects of the Regulations would be monitored.

7. The Minister stated that the impact of the Regulations would be monitored but no specific research had yet been commissioned. The Minister confirmed that the Committee would receive any relevant reports on the issue.
