Ron Gould Gives Evidence To Local Government And Communities Committee

Ron Gould, the Canadian elections expert will appear for the first time in front of a Parliamentary committee this week.

Mr Gould, who has overseen elections worldwide and was appointed to write the review of the Scottish Elections, will give evidence via a video link to the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Communities Committee this Wednesday (21 November).

Mr Gould was appointed by the Electoral Commission to carry out an independent assessment of the Scottish Parliamentary and local government elections that took place on 3 May this year. The report entitled Electoral Commissions Report – Scottish Elections 2007 was published on 23October.

Background

The Electoral Commission, which has a statutory duty to report on the administration of the Scottish Parliament elections, was also asked by the Scottish Government to report on the Scottish local government elections.

Members of The Electoral Commission including Commissioner Sir Neil McIntosh, Andy O’Neill Head of Office for the Commission in Scotland and Peter Wardle the Electoral Commission’s Chief Executive will all give evidence to the Local Government and Communities Committee on 5 December.
