LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND TRANSPORT COMMITTEE CALLS FOR EVIDENCE
ON FREIGHT TRANSPORT INQUIRY

The Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Transport Committee has agreed to carry out an inquiry into freight transport in Scotland and is seeking evidence from all interested parties.
Remit for the inquiry
To examine freight transport policy in Scotland and in particular:
the future prospects for the Scottish road haulage industry and the impact of changes affecting the road haulage industry on the Scottish economy
the present and potential contribution of all modes of freight transport, including road, rail, water and air, including their environmental impact; and
the Scottish Executive's targets in encouraging the transfer of freight from road to rail and water.
For information, please note that the Scottish Executive's freight transport policy is outlined from paragraph 4.30 of the white paper 'Scotland's Transport Future'.
Written evidence
Interested individuals and organisations are invited to submit written evidence to the Committee on the inquiry. Evidence should be received by the Clerk by 2 December 2005.
Written evidence of no more than 4 sides of A4 should be submitted by e-mail to localgvt.transport@scottish.parliament.uk in Word or plain text. Individuals without access to a computer are requested to submit evidence in hard copy to the address below. Please note that any supporting documentation will not necessarily be considered by the Committee.
All written evidence received may be published by the Parliament and will be treated as a public document unless indicated otherwise. All written responses will be circulated to members of the Local Government and Transport Committee.
