PARLIAMENT’S NEW ‘BADGE’ TO BE UNVEILED IN NEW YEAR

A badge – or ‘logo’ – for The Scottish Parliament will be unveiled in the New Year, the Parliamentary Corporate Body announced today. The distinctive badge will be used alongside the Parliament’s existing text-based identity which is used on items such as letters and other stationery.

A competition was held earlier this year amongst further education colleges and universities to design a badge. From 15 entries, the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) chose the submission from Aberdeen College as the winning entry.

Two key requirements of the competition were for all proposals to represent the essence of the new Parliament and to be compatible with the existing text-based corporate identity. While the entries received were of a high standard, all fell short of these requirements in some manner in the opinion of the SPCB.

As a result, the SPCB is progressing some additional work to produce a badge which incorporates all the required elements. It is hoped to unveil the new design early in the new year.
