President of Croatia to visit Scottish Parliament

The President of Croatia, His Excellency Stjepan Mesić, will visit the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 18 October 2007.

The President will meet Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP, and a formal reception will follow to mark the President’s visit to the Scottish Parliament.

This is President Mesić’s second visit to Scotland while in office. On his first visit to the Scottish Parliament in December 2001, Mr Mesić addressed a meeting of Members.

Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP said:

"We look forward to welcoming the Croatian President back to the Scottish Parliament.

"The President has a very full agenda planned for his trip to Scotland, which demonstrates the growing relationship between our two countries.”

Background information

In addition to visiting the Parliament President Mesić will meet with the First Minister and officially open the new Honorary Consulate of Croatia in Edinburgh.

He will also address an economic seminar on investment opportunities and the development of Scottish-Croatian business cooperation.
