United Nations prize winning peacemaker addresses Scotland's Futures Forum at Holyrood

One of the world's leading peace brokers, former US Senator George Mitchell, is attending the Scottish Parliament on Monday 2 October to talk about the future for international peace.
Hosted by the Presiding Officer, the Rt. Hon George Reid MSP, Senator George Mitchell will meet with Scotland's Futures Forum to talk about his experience of the peace process in Northern Ireland and conflict resolution in the Middle East .
Welcoming George Mitchell, Mr Reid said:

He is not only an international statesman and businessman, but someone committed to increasing the life chances of every man and woman in his country. The Futures Forum is keen to hear about his humanitarian approach to resolving conflicts and to see what we can learn from it."

Background
Since 2002, Senator Mitchell has been a Senior Fellow and Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University Centre for International Conflict Resolution, where he works to help end or avert conflicts between nations. He was integral to the all party peace negotiations which led to the Belfast Agreement signed on Good Friday in 1998.
Senator Mitchell is global chairman of law firm DLA Piper and he is in Scotland at the invitation of DLA Piper Scotland.
Scotland's Futures Forum exists to enable MSPs and others responsible for Scotland's future prosperity, cohesion and welfare to look beyond the normal four year electoral policy cycle at the challenges facing the nation and seeks ways of meeting those challenges.
