European Award for Languages ceremony
070/2006 | 21 September 2006
The European Award for Languages ceremony is to take place in the Debating Chamber on 26 September, the European Day of Languages.
The European Award for Languages is a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission which recognises creativity and innovation in language teaching. The National Centre for Languages (CILT) is the UK co-ordinator of the initiative, assisted by an advisory group.
Two Scottish projects have won a European Award for Languages this year - in the Secondary and Secondary/Higher Education Partnership categories. The two winners are:
- Litterhitters, Shawlands Academy, Glasgow
- Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
As part of the ceremony, Heriot-Watt’s award winning multilingual debate will be conducted in the Debating Chamber, with Heriot-Watt students acting as interpreters.
