PRESIDING OFFICER TO ADDRESS JOINT PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY IN EDINBURGH

Presiding Officer George Reid will address delegates today (Monday) at the 10 th session of the Africa Caribbean Pacific - European Union (ACP-EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA).

The JPA, which is taking place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre from 19-24 November, will deal with major issues relating to the ACP-EU partnership.

Amongst the topics being discussed are the causes and consequences of natural disasters, the situation in West Africa and the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemical substances.

The Rt Hon George Reid MSP will be welcomed by the ACP-EU JPA Co-Presidents Glenys Kinnock and Sharon Hay Webster. At 11.30am he will be formally invited to address the conference by Mrs Kinnock. Following this, both Co-Presidents will speak before inviting HRH The Duke of Gloucester to address the assembly.

The JPA's Standing Committees and Women's Forum met on Saturday 19 November and the Bureau met yesterday (Sunday). The Plenary Session will be opened today by First Minister Jack McConnell, and will run until Thursday, 24 November.

Visitors are welcome to attend the meetings within the limits of places available for the public. They must present themselves on the day of the meeting with an ID card at the entrance of the Conference Centre.
