Following First Minister’s Question Time, the six main parties came together to offer their festive messages and good wishes:

“This Christmas we should all consider how best our small country can play a big part in building a better world. I am determined that we will use our Scottish values, skills and commitment to help those less fortunate than ourselves elsewhere in the world. I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.” - Jack McConnell MSP, Scottish Labour Party.

“I would like to wish everyone in Scotland a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope that 2005 will be a year of peace and prosperity. I hope also that the Scottish Parliament will continue to grow in confidence and be a real force for change in Scotland.” - Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Scottish National Party.

"A Merry Christmas and a guid New Year to yin and a' from the Scottish Conservatives." - David McLetchie MSP, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

"The new year will see the Parliament tackle some of the big issues of the next decade - better health, stronger business and an enhanced environment. But first, the Scottish Liberal Democrats hope people throughout Scotland enjoy their Christmas break and I wish everyone a healthy, safe and enterprising new year." - Jim Wallace MSP, Scottish Liberal Democrats.

“Christmas means different things to different people. As a modern and diverse mix of people, philosophies, and cultures, we in Scotland can celebrate different things at the same time of year, and in our different ways. So whether it’s Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth, Praise to the Saviour, or Season’s Greetings, I hope you all have a wonderful time over the festive period."
- Robin Harper MSP & Shiona Baird MSP, Scottish Green Party.

"The Scottish Socialist Party group in the Scottish Parliament sends peace and solidarity and greetings to all those across the world struggling for a better life for today and for future generations." - The Scottish Socialist Party.
