CORPORATE BODY EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO MIRALLES FAMILY

The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) today expressed it’s sympathies to the family of the late Enric Miralles and described as "tasteless and inappropriate" some of the comments made after the architect’s death was announced yesterday.

Speaking after the SPCB’s regular Tuesday meeting, Presiding Officer Sir David Steel, as chair of the SPCB, said:

"The SPCB were stunned and deeply saddened to learn yesterday afternoon of the untimely and tragic death of Enric Miralles.

"The members have asked me to put on record their deep sympathy and condolences to Mr Miralles’ wife Benadetta and their two young children.

"We have also noted with regret the inappropriate and tasteless comments from one MSP which were made immediately after the death was announced and which have appeared in the press on the day of the funeral.

"The Corporate Body does not believe this is an appropriate time to respond in any detail to matters about the history of this Project to date.

"We also back the Holyrood Progress Group’s view that work must continue apace on this project which will stand as a monument to the architectural brilliance of Enric Miralles."
