A rug based on a design by a Scottish schoolgirl is now on temporary display in the Scottish Parliament.

The tufted rug was created by master weaver Douglas Grierson of Edinburgh's Dovecot Studios, from a painting by Sophie Renton of St George's School.

It can be seen by visitors until 7 February, when it moves to its permanent home, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Sophie made the painting for the "Edinburgh Scenes Through Your Eyes" art competition, organised by The Cockburn Association.

It illustrates the view from the school's library balcony towards St Mary's Cathedral and beyond.

Funds for the commissioning of the rug were raised by the Scottish Arts Club, members of the Cockburn Association, and St George's School.

Holyrood's permanent collection of art work features pieces by artists including Will Maclean, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Christine Borland and Alison Watt. Find out more about the art on display at Holyrood.
