Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy 2005
The Scottish Parliament hosted the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy ceremony on 4 October 2005.
The event honoured international philanthropists and it was the first time the ceremony has been held outside the United States.

| 6 October: Leading philanthropists receive Carnegie Medals at Holyrood |
Six of the world's leading philanthropists were presented with the prestigious Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, 4 October.
Medals and bronze busts of Andrew Carnegie were presented to Scots business tycoon Sir Tom Farmer, His Highness the Aga Khan, arts benefactor Agnes Gund, Anna Southall on behalf of the Cadbury Family, Susan Packard Orr on behalf of the Packard Family and Eleanor Hewlett Gimon on behalf of the Hewlett Family.

| 4 October: Global philanthropy issues debated at Holyrood |
| Leading philanthropy figures from around the world have met at the Scottish Parliament to discuss how strategic philanthropy can play a role in tackling global problems.
More than 400 representatives from philanthropic bodies, politics and civil society gathered to participate in an international philanthropy symposium of six workshops ahead of the presentation of the Andrew Carnegie Medals of Philanthropy. |

Members of the public are being invited to apply for the chance to watch the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy ceremony. A ballot will decide who gets the chance to be one of 20 people who can join guests at the discussion workshops and Medals ceremony. |

The Aga Khan will receive the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy at an awards ceremony at the Scottish Parliament in the autumn. Other recipients are Scottish businessman Sir Tom Farmer, American arts benefactor Agnes Gund, and the Hewlett, Cadbury and Packard families. |
