Remuneration:
 

Employed by NHS Lothian, Lothian House Livingston, West Lothian as a full time Consultant Psychiatrist (Addiction), annual salary and expenses received are between £80,001 - £85,000. I have resigned and after serving my period of notice I will cease to hold this post as at 14 August 2007. On 29 February 2008 I received back pay of £16,100 gross from NHS Lothian covering the period from April 2006 until the end of employment in 2007. Therefore the total annual remuneration received was between £95,001 - £100,000. [Registered 31 May 2008, Amended interest 13 March 2008]

I undertake periodic irregular work as a freelance journalist for a variety of businesses, committees and other media and anticipate receiving up to £500 per annum for such journalism.

I am a member of the Parliamentary Committee of the Royal College of Pyschiatrists, Belgrave Square, London. I receive between £501 - £1,000 travel and accommodation expenses for annually attending on 4 half days per year. I resigned from this Committee on 1 October 2007. I participated in a one day advisory meeting on substance misuse in July 2006, for which I received a fee of £200. The meeting was organised by Schering Plough, 2000 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ, a pharmaceutical company.

From 22 August 2007 I have undertaken temporary consultancy work for the Edinburgh Drug Action Team, City Art Centre, 2 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DE. This work is to complete the development of an e-health Single Shared Assessment and is work which I had already commenced when I previously worked for Lothian NHS. For this work I receive between £3,001 and £5,000 per annum.[Registered 19 September 2007]

As a Consultant Psychiatrist I undertake occasional locum sessions for NHS Lothian (Community Drug Problem Service) for which I anticipate receiving up to £500 per annum. [Registered 25 October 2007]

During summer 2007 I rented out my holiday house in Fife for a few weeks which generated income for me of between £2001 and £3,000. This house is used throughout the year by me and my family as a residential home. [Registered 25 October 2007]

My wife and I let out two rooms at our residential home in Stirling to a student which generates income of between £3,001 and £5,000 per annum. [Registered 21 November 2007]

On 18 November 2007 I spoke at the 38th Annual Conference of the Scottish Association for the Study of Offending, in Peebles. My wife and I received dinner and overnight accommodation of up to £500. The actual value of the dinner and accommodation was £300 which was paid for by the Scottish Association for the Study of Offending (a criminal justice conference organiser of 56 Ava Street, Kirkcaldy, KY1 1PN). In March 2007 I attended a meeting of addiction specialists in Prague, the cost of travel and accommodation amounted to £490 and was paid for by Schering Plough, 2000 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, NJ.

Heritable Property:
 

I own a half share in a flat in Edinburgh with a market value of between £25,001 - £100,000 with a gross rental income of between £5001 - £10,000 per annum.

I am joint owner of a flat in Edinburgh with a market value between £200,001 - £250,000 with a gross rental income between £10,001 - £15,000 per annum. As of 1 September 2007 I no longer receive rental income from this property. [Registered 31 May 2007, Amended interest 19 September 2007]
