Petition by Dean Widd, on behalf of the Parent Project UK Muscular Dystrophy (Scotland), calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to ensure sufficient funding and resources are in place to combat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and to ensure that the care requirements of those with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy are met.

31 May 2006 :   The Public Petitions Committee heard from Yvonne Widd, Sarah Fidelo and Eileen Fidelo and agreed to seek views on the petition from the Scottish Muscle Network, the Chief Scientists Office, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland and the Minister for Health and to seek the views of the petitioner on the responses received. 

6 February 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to seek the views of the Scottish Executive on the response received from the petitioner and to seek the petitioner’s views on the Executive’s further response. Link to Official Report 6 February 2007 

18 December 2007 :   The Committee agreed to seek a further response from the Scottish Government on how it is taking forward various initiatives in this area. Link to Official Report 18 December 2007 

18 March 2008 :   The Committee agreed write to the Scottish Government seeking a response on the outcome of the meeting between the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and the Minister for Public Health and how actions from that meeting will be taken forward. Link to Official Report 18 March 2008 

23 September 2008 :   The Committee agreed to close consideration of the petition on the grounds that the Scottish Government is taking forward a number of initiatives in the area of clinical genetics aimed at strengthening services for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patients and their families and that the petitioner very recently met with the Minister for Public Health to discuss its strategy paper Making Muscle Wasting History and that the Minister undertook to write following up on issues discussed at the meeting. Further, the petitioner would appear to have a useful line of communication with the Scottish Government to take these matters forward.Link to Official Report 23 September 2008
