Petition by Claire McCready calling for the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to ensure that cranial abnormalities of babies, such as deformational plagiocephaly/torticollis, are properly recognised and treated by evaluating babies at birth and at 6 weeks; that appropriate advice is available to parents, including repositioning advice; and that cranial remoulding therapy is available free of charge from the NHS.

17 May 2006 :   The Public Petitions Committee heard from Claire McCready and Mandy Muir and agreed to seek views on the petition from Plagio UK, Headstart4Babies UK, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, the Scottish Cot Death Trust, the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the Royal College of Midwives, the Association of Health Visitors and the Minister for Health and to seek the views of the petitioner on these responses once they have been received. 

20 March 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee noted the increased knowledge and understanding of the condition that that this petition has generated and welcomed the publication, yesterday, of the NHS Scotland leaflet Protect your baby’s natural headshape: tummy time to play, back to sleep and agreed to ask the Scottish Executive whether it intends to conduct further research into deformational plagiocephaly/torticollis. 18 September 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to seek an update from the Scottish Government. Link to Official Report 18 September 2007 

18 December 2007 :   The Committee agreed to suspend consideration of the petition until the completion of a research trial into cranial abnormalities and to then invite the Scottish Government and NHS Quality Improvement Scotland to submit a further response to the Committee on the outcomes and action to be taken arising from such research. 24 June 2008 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to the petitioner’s letter and, in particular, when a revised version of Ready Steady Baby including information on cranial abnormalities will be published. Link to Official Report 24 June 2008
