Summary:
Written Submissions for PE1128
4 March 2008 : The Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in the petition from the Scottish Government, Scottish Interfaith Council, University of Edinburgh and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Link to Official Report 4 March 2008
9 September 2008 : The Committee agreed to close consideration of the petition on the grounds that the Scottish Government does not consider the use of a Royal Prerogative of Mercy appropriate in this case as the people were tried and convicted in the laws of the time. Further, it may be particularly difficult to apply modern knowledge and concepts of morality to events which took place centuries ago. Link to Official Report 9 September 2008
