Petitioner: Philip Flanders
On behalf of: Road Haulage Association

SPICe Briefing: Briefing for PE1119
Summary:

Written Submissions for PE1119

4 March 2008 :   The Committee agreed to seek a response to the issues raised in the petition from the Scottish Government. Link to Official Report 4 March 2008

9 September 2008 :   The Committee agreed to close consideration of the petition on the grounds that the Scottish Government has made representations to the UK Government about the impact on the road haulage industry of recent fuel price increases and called for a freeze in fuel duty and for a fuel duty regulator. Further, that the Scottish Government is actively pursuing these issues with the UK Government. However, in closing the petition, the Committee agreed to invite the Scottish Government to engage with the petitioner over the action it can take within its devolved powers, for instance, part funding training courses for hauliers to achieve greater fuel efficiency.
