18 December 2007 : The Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in the petition from the Scottish Government, Postwatch, COSLA, Post Office Ltd and Postal Services Commission (Postcomm). Link to Official Report 18 December 2007
18 March 2008 : The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government on what plans it has to undertake an assessment of the economic, social and environmental impact the closure of rural post offices will have on rural communities and what role the Scottish Rural Development Programme will play in the light of such closures and what scope is there, perhaps through the concordant with COSLA, for local authorities to play a direct role in the provision of services through post offices. It also agreed to write to Falkirk Council on this matter. Link to Official Report 18 March 2008
23 September 2008 : The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government inviting it to bring the petition to the attention of all local enterprise companies requesting that it remind Scottish Enterprise of its duties with regard to the issues raised in the petition, that it determine what it can do to support rural post offices and that it considers whether guidance to local authorities on this issue is required. It also agreed to write to COSLA and Postwatch to ascertain the likely impact on communities in Scotland of the recent announcement on post office closures.Link to Official Report 23 September 2008
