Summary:

Written Submissions for PE1051

2 October 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to seek views on the petition from the Scottish Government and Children First. Link to Official Report - 2 October 2007

29 January 2008 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government on how its strategy on fostering and kinship care will address issues in this petition and to hold further consideration of this petition pending the publication of this strategy. Link to Official Report 29 January 2008

13 May 2008 :   The Committee agreed to close consideration of this petition on the grounds that detailed consideration was given during debate on the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 to give grandparents a legal right of contact with their grandchildren but that, on balance and after discussion with other parties, it was not considered appropriate to do so when it may not always be in the child’s best interest. In addition, that other child-centred avenues are now available, for example, family group conferencing. Link to Official Report 13 May 2008
