Summary:

Written Submissions for PE1023

4 September 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee agreed to seek views on the petition from the Scottish Executive, COSLA, Scottish Care, the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and Age Concern Scotland. Link to Official Report 4 September 2007

15 January 2008 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government on its joint working with COSLA, Scottish Care and the Care Commission and what specific measures in terms of improving care standards are being developed that are relevant to the petition. Link to Official Report 15 January 2008

15 April 2008 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking comment on the specific issues raised by the petitioner and what its timetable is to publish its response to the review of free personal care. Link to Official Report 15 April 2008

7 October 2008 :   The Committee agreed to close consideration of the petition on the grounds that local authorities have a statutory duty to ensure the adequate provision of care services to meet the needs of their local communities and to consider how best to deliver this, either directly or through contracting with private and voluntary sectors. However, in closing the petition, the Committee considered that the petitioner has some pertinent views that could constructively be considered by the Scottish Government as part of its review of the future funding and delivery of long term care services for older people and that it should engage with the petitioner on these matters.
