18 September 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee heard from Dr Murray Hill, Dr Alison Borthwick and Robert McKinstry and agreed to seek views on the petition from the Scottish Government, Universities Scotland, the Scottish Centre for Language Teaching and Research, the Language Network Scotland, the Scottish Funding Council, COSLA, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. 15 January 2008 :   The Committee agreed to refer the petition to the Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee for further consideration. Link to Official Report 15 January 2008 

2 September 2008 :   The Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee considered PE1022 by Dr Murray Hill, on the promotion offoreign language learning and intercultural awareness in Scotland’s schools, colleges and universities, and agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, asking for the Scottish Government’s views on the Scottish Funding Council report into modern languages in Scotlandand what the next steps will be.
