Petition by Niall Campbell calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Executive to review the arrangements for managing scheduled and listed buildings, such as Rowallan Old Castle, to ensure that, where suitable and sensitive plans have been made for restoring such buildings by an owner in a way which will allow public access - such developments are encouraged to proceed.

31 January 2007 :   The Public Petitions Committee heard from Niall Campbell and James Simpson and agreed to seek views on the petition from Historic Scotland, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, the Royal Town Planning Institute, East Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Executive and to seek the views of the petitioner on the responses received. 23 October 2007 :   The Committee agreed to seek further responses to the petition from the Scottish Government and Historic Scotland including, clarification on how ancient monuments are listed and dealt with; how and when responses to the recent Historic Scotland consultation exercise will be taken forward; and on the role of government agencies in reviewing planning applications. 19 February 2008 :   The Committee agreed to defer further consideration of the petition until the outcome of the public local inquiry into the application and to seek a further response from Historic Scotland on what wider policy impacts the inquiry decision will have.
